I have been creating designs and images since 1997, when I was hired as a receptionist for a small printing company in Baltimore, Maryland. Little did I know that I was going to find my career calling when I was 19. It started simple enough, “match this type”, “create a boxing poster”, and I did what I was told. The first programs that I used were Microsoft Word, and Publisher – I know, YUCK!, I didn’t know anything then, I would print the black text, images and they would shoot it with the camera make film and strip it in place.
One day, I was sat in front of the Mac and told to typeset a label, ?huh? I had no clue what I was getting myself into. I learned Quark Xpress 4 in about 4 hours, just playing with the program and trying to figure out how to make things fit the way I needed them to, all I was shown was how to place a text box… Almost immediately, I never wanted to touch my PC again.
That was 12 years ago, now I am all about my Macs, my iphone, my time capsule and designing. I am still a huge Quark Xpress fan, but I do like Adobe’s Indesign. Illustrator and Photoshop are great, Dreamweaver is fabulous, though I am liking this word-press thing (it’s so easy).
The printing company where I got my start has since closed, I am now living in TN in my own home, and was working for the Center for the Arts in Murfreesboro Tennessee up until January 2010. I really had a chance to grow my portfolio while I was there, creating numerous posters, programs, flyers, newletters, brochures and best of all I was able to enhance my photography and webdesign skills. When the Center’s website crashed, I rebuilt it in 3 days! I have also really learned the value of social networking, public relations and advertising to a particular audience.
Below you will find samples of my previous design work. Though I have tried to organize my works seen below, I am still in the process of uploading my designs. All images were created or recreated with permission from the owner.
